Will Window Film Darken My Colorado Springs Windows?

Will Window Film Darken My Colorado Springs Windows?

Window Film For Your Colorado Springs Home

At Colorado Springs Window Film, we are often asked the question “Will window film darken my window?” Our answer is a resounding-no…and yes. But rather than confuse you more, let us explain.

Really the opacity, reflectivity, and darkness of your home windows will depend on the type of film you choose. That is because in the expansive world of window tinting there is not a “one size fits all solution”. The function and form of window tints vary immensely with one common denominator being– any tint you buy SHOULD provide UV protection, heat rejection, glare control and a bit more security. However, to what extent it provides each and any of those will change based on the quality and price level of the film. Like most items, there is a range from good to best and everything in between. For now, let’s take a look at three levels: good, better and best.

Window Tint Darkness Explained

Good: A typical “good” window film is a metallized/dual-reflective film. It is composed of microscopic pieces of metal which reflect heat and glare like a mirror. This type of window film is highly efficient and aids in reducing heat and glare. This, in turn, lowers bills. This film is effective but tends to have a mirrored look that many folks don’t like for their home.
Better: The next level of window film and the most common is a dyed, pigmented or hybrid window film. This type of window film blends dyes and pigments to absorb the sun’s heat and UV rays. It is the most popular because of its reduced reflectivity natural look from inside and out.
Best: Premium window film is made from ceramic and fine metals. As it were, ceramic is one of the most durable and heat-absorbent materials on the market today. Since its properties are better than metalized window films, using premium films result in unmatched clarity and even an enhancement of your view.
